Dharwad, March 22: On Thursday, during a routine check at the Tegur check-post, established to prevent irregularities in the Lok Sabha election, officials seized gold ornaments worth Rs. 38.50 lakh that were being transported without proper documentation on a state government bus.

The press release issued by the district election officials states that Prakashkumar Hukamji Mali, a 47-year-old resident of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, was found carrying 778 grams of gold ornaments, including a necklace and locket, on KSRTC bus number KA-37-F-0748 (Nippani-Gangavati) while traveling from Kolhapur to Sindhanur.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered a discrepancy between the weight of the gold ornaments listed on the bills presented by Mali and the actual weight of the seized items. This significant difference raised suspicion that Mali might have been attempting to conceal information and transport the gold illegally.

The confiscated gold ornaments have been handed over to the Garag police station for further investigation. An FIR has also been registered against Mali under Section 98 of the KP Act.
